I workshop rappresentano un aspetto fondamentale della manifestazione che è anche una settimana di studio, di confronto, di ricerca, di sperimentazione, di crescita, sfruttando il magico feeling di questo angolo di mondo con la fotografia, ricchi del bagaglio delle immagini prodotte da quanti sono già passati da queste parti e dell'umiltà necessaria per seguirne le tracce, verso un rapporto con i luoghi e le persone dal quale possano scaturire ulteriori opportunità di rappresentazione. Il rapporto che si è creato con la gente del posto è stupendo, molto più di una semplice amicizia: al termine della settimana, quando c'è la proiezione delle immagini scattate dai partecipanti, è una grande festa per tutti. Soprattutto perché finalmente possono rivedersi nelle fotografie, dato che finora quasi tutti venivano a Scanno , rubavano qualche momento della loro vita e sparivano, senza neanche rivolgere una parola, un saluto. Agguati fotografici da parte di fotografi vittime dei miti. "Scanno dei Fotografi" vuole ristabilire il giusto rapporto del paese con la fotografia e con i fotografi, un rapporto che ormai per noi è di complicità affettuosa.
Le immagini di Sheila Shalhevet scattate durante il workshop del 2000 sono state pubblicate da una rivista in Israele (febbraio 2001): un servizio su Scanno di ben 13 pagine. E in ottobre la mostra a Rehovot! Complimenti! Scanno is one of the cult
spots in the History of Photography, thanks to the pictures of Henri
Cartier-Bresson and Mario Giacomelli, that carried all over the world the
fascination of this unique village. It is from the last decade of 1800,
with Pietro Di Rienzo, than photographers immortalize Scanno and its
people, to the point that nowadays has become a fundamental stage in the
growing course of anyone dealing with photography. From that The Prize is assigned to emergent photographers world-wide, better if little known, as the aim is just that to discover and value them. Rewarding a famous name would mostly mean to make famous the prize - its creator Giovanni Bucci says - neglecting the pre-eminent opportunity and the joy, above all, contribute to increase the notoriety of that authors who deserve it, and surely more need it, as it consists in the sum of 2000 $ and a little gold and a silver statue (1 kilo), and a wide press campaign to promote the photographer. The Prize has been won in
1998 by Linn Saville (New York) and in 1999 by Jill Hartley (Mexico City).
Through the prize the Municipality of Scanno "pay" its debit of
gratitude towards the photographers that
have the merit of its fame, while the photographers give an image
taken in Scanno. After the plaque on the
place of a famous picture of Cartier-Bresson, since 1999 exists in Scanno
also the "Strada dei Fotografi" and it is that one in which
Mario Giacomelli realized its first photographies of Scanno in a early
morning of the year 1957.

Scanno è uno dei
luoghi culto della Storia della Fotografia grazie soprattutto alle
immagini di Henri Cartier-Bresson e Mario Giacomelli, che hanno portato in
tutto il mondo il fascino di questo paese unico. E' dall'ultimo decennio
del 1800, con Pietro Di Rienzo, che i fotografi immortalano Scanno e
la sua gente, al punto che ai giorni nostri è diventato una tappa
fondamentale nel percorso di crescita di chiunque si occupi di fotografia.
Ecco il perché di "Scanno dei Fotografi", una manifestazione che comprende
un Premio Internazionale di fotografia, mostre, incontri, proiezioni e
workshop.
Il Premio viene assegnato a fotografi emergenti nel panorama mondiale, meglio se poco conosciuti, visto che lo scopo è proprio quello di scoprirli e valorizzarli. Premiare un nome famoso servirebbe più che altro a rendere famoso il premio - dice il suo ideatore Giovanni Bucci - trascurando l'opportunità preminente e la gioia, soprattutto, di contribuire ad aumentare la notorietà di autori che lo meritano, e ne hanno sicuramente più bisogno, visto che consiste nella somma di 2000 $ e in una statuetta in oro e argento di un chilo, oltre ad una vasta campagna stampa per promuovere l'autore.
Il Premio è stato vinto nel 1998 da Linn Saville (New York) e nel 1999 da Jill Hartley (Mexico City). Attraverso il premio il Comune di Scanno "paga" il suo debito di riconoscenza verso i fotografi ai quali deve il merito della sua notorietà, mentre i fotografi premiati lasciano una loro immagine scattata a Scanno.
Dopo la targa sul luogo di una foto famosa di Cartier-Bresson, dal 1999 esiste a Scanno anche la "Strada dei Fotografi" ed è quella in cui Mario Giacomelli scattò le sue prime fotografie a Scanno una mattina del 1957.
Il Premio Internazionale è diventato biennale, con la speranza che chi ha il potere in comune attualmente non lo lasci morire. Sarebbe un peccato.
The
workshop is an essential part of the festival that is, above all, a week of
experimentation, research, comparison, study, growing, by making the most of
the magical feeling of this corner of the world with photography, with our
eyes full of the famous pictures just taken by others here and of the needed
humility to follow their marks,
closely in touch with the places and the persons from which new chances of
description (and creativity) can spring. The
relationship that we have created with people is wonderful, much more than a
simple friendship: at the end of the week, the slide show with the pictures
taken from the participants is a great party. Above all because they finally
can see their pictures since, up to now, nearly all came to Scanno, stole
some moments of their life and disappeared, without
chat up, without a nod. Real photographic ambushes from photographers
victims of myths. The
festival "Scanno dei Fotografi" wants to re-establish the right
relationship between the village and Photography (and photographers), a
relationship that must be an affectionate complicity. The pictures made
by Sheila Shalhevet in August 2000, has been published by a geographic magazine
in Israel (February 2001): a 13 pages report on Scanno. Next October the
exhibition in Rehovot! Congratulations!
